Jane Nankwenya was appointed Deputy Chief of Mission of the Malawi Embassy to the United States of America in March, 2010. Before being posted to Washington, DC, she served as a Commissioner at the Malawi Electoral Commission—an impartial Statutory body that conducts Elections in Malawi on a regular basis as required by the Constitution. While at the Commission, Ms. Nankwenya was part of a team that ran the much publicized and very successful, transparent, credible, free and fair 2009 Parliamentary and Presidential Elections. She served as Deputy Chairperson of the Finance and Administration Committee of the Commission from 2008 until August 2010 when she left for Washington, DC. Previously Ms. Nankwenya worked for Suntrust Bank here in Washington, DC where she managed individual client portfolios. She is a passionate supporter of girls’ education and an alumna of one of AGE Africa’s partner schools in Malawi. Ms. Nankwenya holds a BA in English from Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Kentucky, and an Associate Degree in Theology. She is a mother of three girls.
