Valerie Gilpin directs educational exchange programs at the U.S. Department of State.

She has administered a wide range of international education and leadership development programs, including programs to support women’s advancement.

She has previously served as Executive Director of Women in International Security, and Assistant Director of International Affairs at the University of Maryland, and has been a consultant on gender and education issues in Sub-Saharan Africa.

She holds a Master of Arts in History and International Relations from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School.
