H.E. Ambassador Steve Matenje became Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Malawi to the United States of America on the September 16, 2010, the day he presented letters of credentials to the US President, Barack Hussein Obama.
He is also accredited to the Bahamas, Canada, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Puerto Rico on a non- residential basis. The Ambassador has been public servant in the Malawi Public Service since 1980.
Prior to his appointment Ambassador Matenje served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Malawi to the United Nations. From 1995 to 2006, he served as Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice. Ambassador Matenje holds a Master in Arts degree in Business Law from City of London Polytechnic, and a bachelor of Laws with honors from Chancellor College, University of Malawi.
He is married to his lovely wife Isabel and they have four children; two boys and two girls.
