The Ride for Malawi

Each year, AGE Africa’s Board of Directors selects an event as part of our fundraising efforts to support our work to provide scholarships and life skills programs for girls in Malawi. For 2019, the board is proud to announce The Ride for Malawi, an ambitious biking event that will take us 62, 35, or 15 miles through the streets of Washington, DC.  The Ride for Malawi will take place on September 7th, 2019.

About the 50 States Ride:

The Ride for Malawi is AGE Africa’s team for the Washington Area Bicyclist Association’s 50 States Ride. Though there is no team registration for this ride, supporters of AGE Africa are encouraged to set up a fundraising page on our CrowdRise and email us to stay up to date on how to be involved with AGE Africa before and during the ride. This ride has three length options:

The 50 States route: 62 miles long, riders travel through all fifty state-named streets in DC.

Route 66: 35 miles long, riders will explore the eight streets named for the states that the original Route 66 passed through. Riders will travel from east to west. This option offers a middle distance route for riders.

The 13 colonies route: 15 miles long, riders will travel the streets named after the original thirteen colonies; this route offers a much more relaxed option to participants.

The 50 States Ride is a major annual fundraiser for WABA, and helps further WABA’s mission and impact. The ride embodies the spirit of community and inclusion that is core to WABA’s mission of growing bicycling throughout the region. And, registering supports WABA’s advocacy, education, and outreach work that makes bicycling more safe, fun, and accessible around the region. Each year, this ride draws hundreds of cyclists. We are proud of the work that we do with our community in Malawi, and are excited to support our DC community too.

How do I participate?

Riding with us?

    1. Enter your email into the box on the registration page to check your membership status. If you are not a member, it will bring you to a registration page that allows you to purchase membership with your ride registration.
    2. Your WABA membership gains you access to the ride for you and one non-member.

    1. You can either register for you and a non-member at this time, or use your email at a later time to take advantage of the non-member registration.

How much does it cost?

A membership with WABA (required for the ride) costs $35, and will allow you and one non-member to register for the ride.

Registration per rider for this ride is as follows:

$50 until July 8th

$60 between July 8th – August 26th

$70 after August 26th
