On May 28, 2026, three young women graduated from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, known as LUANAR. Jacquiline Kanzenga, Luckia Makande, and Stella Grecian each came from a different district in Malawi, and each carried a different story. In a country where very few women earn a university degree, all three finished on time. That kind of achievement rewrites what people believe is possible.
Jacquiline Kanzenga
Jacquiline grew up in Dowa, the fourth child in a family of nine. She earned a Bachelor of Education Science, majoring in Physics with a minor in Mathematics, fields where women across Malawi remain sharply underrepresented. "This opportunity has helped me stay in school and dream bigger for my family and my future," she says. Now she is ready to teach the next generation the very subjects she once fought to study.
Luckia Makande
Luckia grew up in Mchinji, and her road to graduation took real courage. She pushed through loss and setback and completed her degree in Crop Science. She now plans to build a career, run a business, and strengthen the farming community she comes from. "Education gave me a second chance to rebuild my life and create hope for others," she says. In a country where agriculture anchors the economy, her expertise lands exactly where it matters.
Stella Grecian
Stella grew up in Kasungu as the first child in her family. She set out to break the cycle of poverty through education, and she did. She earned a Bachelor of Education Science, also majoring in Physics with a minor in Mathematics. "Education has given me hope, confidence, and the power to change my family's future," she says. Now she wants to become the role model she once needed, showing every girl from a low-income family that the path is real.
Why This Matters
These three degrees represent years of work, along with the tuition, fees, books, and mentorship that kept each woman enrolled. Behind every graduate stands a network of support, and every community will feel the benefit for decades. Jacquiline, Luckia, and Stella prove what they can accomplish, and they light the way for the girls who come after them.
To everyone who made this possible: the future is bright.
